                                                     Bill Powell Art & Design Workshop, Dunedin, Florida,  -  3/15/14 - 3/16/14

A chronicle of my recent progress and a way for me to keep it straight in my head!

The Bill Powell Art & Design workshop was at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center in Dunedin Florida on 3/15/14 - 3/16/14.

Topics included: Wheel throwing, preparing catch trays, glazing, grinding finished pots, crystal firings, glaze formulas, applying and firing gold luster, handles and finials, working with glass, glass molds and release agents, completing glass pieces and casting.

A bunch of us converged on John O'Neil's house while he was at work the day before. Bill provided a 10 page handout. It had to be one of the best laid out workshop programs I've seen so far. Avi filmed just about, if not, all of it ........ .......... and I really liked his shirt.
I guess there were ~25 people there. Bill demonstrated throwing tall pots, round pots, wide pots, 2 piece pots and platters.   He said these pieces are small for him.
He is really a master with the torch using it to dry things as he goes.
Bill is a riser and catcher kind of guy. He fires things in a gas kiln control manually. It takes a steady hand to apply gold luster with a gold pen.

Glenn and Keith had everyone over for an "American" theme pot luck dinner. I bought what I think is a very elegant looking piece at the silent auction.

This platter was thrown as 2 pieces.

Bill showed how to pull down the rim then work the body down to it.   It looks like word about etching is spreading.

Bill was a tough one to photograph. Half my shots ended up on the cutting room floor because of some kind of weird facila expression. I think its dure to him being so expressive and changing from look to look. At one point he knew I was struggling with it and gave me some keepers.
