Seed Selection

There are hundreds of varieties of bentgrass that are used on golf greens around the world. Typically bentgrass is used in northern climates and Bermuda grass in southern climates. Pencross Bentgrass is an old standard that we have used. Recently  Seed Research SR-119 was added. Penn A-4 has been suggest as  a variety with superior high plant density.

Mowing

Allow the young grass to become established before mowing. Some courses do not mow for the first year at all when establishing a new green. Others contend that you should mow the new bent grass as soon as possible. Never the less it it is a good idea to set the mower height "up" (1/2" to 3/4") during the seedling phase and lower it after the plants have had time to become established.
