Dear Mr. Wizard,
During my ride back from Crystalline Glaze Summer Camp at your place last week I
kept thinking about:
1) The pieces you provided which I needed to trim.
2) What a pain in the butt it would have been to do using a Giffin Grip and
other things at my disposal.
3) The inventory of hard chucks you have and what would be involved in getting
set up with some.
4) Some of the issues associated with using them (out of round, scratchy,
denting, etc.).
I came up with the idea of a fully adjustable soft chuck made from sheet foam. I
thought it might consist of a series of interlocking foam rings which could be
configured on the fly to accept virtually any shape.
To make a long story short I made one (or more) using one of our CNC routers.
It turned out to be a breeze to use - whether I was sanding or cutting. It held
the pieces softly yet firmly.
Check it, and the process involved in fabrication, out more deeply at this page.
What do you think? Would you use one? Do you think others might buy one?
