Winter Fungus Damage
Snow mold is a fungus that attacks grass under the snow. This occurs after long periods of snow cover after the grass has been starved of air. It appears when the snow has melted and looks like sea foam or the head on a beer. There are several varieties, including Pink Snow Mold. It looks horrible as one of the first things you see in the early spring, but its effects will disappear if the dead grass and thatch are removed and the grass grows out a little.
Appearance within a day after the melting of the winter's snow cover.
